It was once said to us that while it might be a charitable thing to do for us to sing at a Residential Care Home, it would have little benefit for the Choir.
What more benefit could we need? Trying to raise money for local charities and to those in need of care or support is one of the main reasons we come together and sing.
So on a warm summer afternoon we sang at Stratton Court on the outskirts of Cirencester and were delighted to do so. And when we were told by one resident ‘That is the best tonic I have had in years’, then a good day was made even better.
‘It brought back so many memories,’ we were told. ‘It is so lovely to hear a male voice choir again’.
And it was a particular pleasure to know that in the audience was one of our former members, David Crowhurst, who now lives there.
The Cirencester Male Voice Choir has sung at the Royal Albert Hall and the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival, but is just as pleased to have been asked to sing for the residents and staff at Stratton Court. Thank you.
