Cirencester Baptist Church 19 February 2020
Last night Cirencester Male Voice Choir were delighted to share the stage with the outstanding Southampton Youth Concert Sinfonia directed by Anna Robinson.
The orchestra regularly go on tour during the February Half term and were previously in Cirencester back in 2017. For their 2020 tour SYCS invited Cirencester MVC and Blue Notes to share the stage with them.
The concert was opened by the orchestra with a stunning rendition from Pirates of the Carribean. After a couple of numbers, Blue Notes took the stage, with their musical director Jules Addison at the piano. Singing a few new songs which the group have been learning this year they were a lovely contrast to the orchestra.
Southampton Youth Concert Sinfonia then returned to the stage with their other conductor Kevin Withell taking up the baton from Anna.
After the short interval the orchestra took the stage again with a world premier called Horizon, which was outstanding. Before long, it was the turn of Cirencester Male Voice Choir. We sang 5 songs in our set ending with our rendition of ‘If we only have Love’.
The orchestra then returned to perform Elgar’s Nimrod before the Finale which featured the orchestra and both choirs in a performance of ‘You Raise me Up’.
This featured Jules ‘Ghost conducting’ Anna in order to (attempt to) keep the choir with the orchestra as we had not been able to join their rehearsal earlier in the afternoon.
The concert was a splendid success and we hope it raised some money for the Friends of SYCS
