Last Monday, our rehearsal was run from the piano by our new accompanist, Anne-Marie. I was away in Scotland with my other hat on to record a School Choir and there wasn’t quite time to run the rehearsal and then get to Scotland in order to start recording the next morning at 8am. Or at least not if I planned on sleeping!
And so after just 2 weeks in the role, Anne-Marie found herself directing a choir she had only just met and taking on the role of Assistant Musical Director, which I personally feel is a better title than Accompanist.
What to rehearse?
Our next concert is now only a couple of weeks away. The concert will be taking place in the Baptist Church in Cirencester on Wednesday 19 February. If you haven’t already got your tickets, have a look at the poster on our home page for more details.
Whilst most of the music for this event is fairly well rehearsed it is always useful to run through the songs regularly in the run up to a public performance. Mostly this is to keep the words and music fresh in people’s minds. Like most Male Voice Choirs, Cirencester MVC do not use the scores in performance. Everything has to be sung from memory.
New Songs for 2020
As well as keeping some of our established repertoire ‘live’ this year we are also learning a good number of new songs. Hence it is a great time to join the choir as you can join in with learning new songs together with our current membership.
For last Monday’s rehearsal Anne-Marie chose to work on ‘I Dreamed a Dream’. From what I understand good progress was made even though the rehearsal was slightly shorter than usual.
Joining the Choir
You may have read about our open Rehearsal at the end of January which, all told, was a great success. However, that doesn’t mean that you cannot join. Cirencester Male Voice Choir welcome new members throughout the year. Just come along to any of our rehearsals which are currently at the Parish Church on Monday evenings at 7.30pm. You don’t need any previous experience of singing nor do you need to be able to read music.
